A common misconception about secession is that it is illegal or unconstitutional. Even if it was, same-sex marriage was once illegal until it wasn’t, and the constitution once prohibited the manufacture, sale, and transportation of alcohol… until it didn’t. Secession is not illegal, nor is it unconstitutional. The Supreme Court ruled in Texas v. White that a state can secede by “consent of the states” and as your governor, I will reach out and gain the consent of a majority of the state legislatures in this country and then put an independence referendum up before the voters of California.
I am dedicated to pursuing a legal path to independence - but that doesn't mean we won't act unilaterally if we have to.
We will not provoke an armed conflict and in the age of social media, Washington would never attack California.
The Constitution does not prohibit secession, leaving it for the states to decide, per the 10th Amendment.
Mission and Vision
Declare California a Country
Join the United Nations
Protect Civil Rights and Liberties
The vision I have for California is that of an independent country and the 194th member of the United Nations. I am running for governor to make that happen. Meanwhile, there is much more to do to govern California than pursue its independence. That’s why I make the following promise: during my term, I will stanchly protect civil rights and liberties, parents’ rights, and the rights of immigrants. I will govern California though that lens.
Independence Means Keeping California's Taxes in California!
California is a donor state, meaning we pay more in federal taxes than we get back in the form of federal funding. In other words, our taxes are subsidizing other states in this Union - many of which would love to see California fall off into the ocean. By becoming an independent country, we will keep all our taxes here in California to be spent here investing in our infrastructure, health care, and education.
Where I Stand on Other Issues
California has got a population of nearly 40 million and is the fifth largest economy in the world. You deserve to know where I stand on the issues and how I will govern California while we pursue our path to independence.
I am a native of Buffalo, New York who has called California my home for over ten years now. During this time I lived and worked in San Diego as a teacher of English. In 2016, I returned to Russia, where I had earlier studied Russian, and continued teaching because I no longer wanted to live under the American flag. After serving as the representative of the Independent Republic of California to Russia, I now return to California to serve as your governor.
